Testimony on Church Camp Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 09/06/2007 – 12/06/2007 by Shuhui

This camp was such an adventure as I lost my passport. So, this had totally spices up my whole trip. For the past few months my relationship with God was not good. That morning before I left my house I prayed to God that He will let me experience Him again in this camp. A few hours later, when I reached my hotel room, I realised that my passport was lost. Can you imagine? The moment I reached my hotel room, I haven't even unpack my luggage or start doing anything, the first thing that happened was my lost passport. It was the start of the adventure.

I have to thank God for the peace that He granted within me. Somehow, I was really calm and not running around like chickens with their heads chopped off. I prayed together with my sister and asked God to help us. And He really did. He showered upon us His goodness and favor in many ways. He brought many helpful people along our way to assist us. Like the hotel people, the immigration officers, taxi driver etc..

Also, I’m really thankful for the church family. Through this event, I really experienced the love of a family church. In Malaysia, I don't know anyone and the place. The only people I knew were the church people. When this thing happened, I wanted to look for help. We tried to lodge a police report at the nearest police station, but they were not adequate to help us. Some more, we don't even understand each other. They don't understand English and we totally don't understand their Malay too.. so it's more of a chicken and duck conversation.. haha.. Then they referred us to this special branch police station.

Feeling that we really should inform someone in church who knows KL more to at least advise or accompany us, we decided to approach Uncle Sean. Since my handphone died at the most crucial moment, we approached Shawn wanting to borrow her handphone. Not only did she lent her handphone to us, she even helped us to contact all the people that she could get hold on.. the bus company, the hotel management, our church people etc.. She even managed to get the hotel to get their staff and company car to bring us to special branch and back to the hotel.. I was amazed and really thankful for her going the extra mile.

Not only that, news spread like fire.. In just a couple of minutes, I think most of the church members there know about my situation. They will call to encourage us and being supportive. Serine called her siblings there to find out the directions for us; Uncle Sean was advising us on how to handle the situation and referring us to all the various people that could help.

Because of my lost passport, I had to go to the Singapore embassy and the KL immigration office to get emergency travel documents. Going to the embassy part wasn't that bad because it's still supposed to be considered as safe. But when the embassy told me to go the immigration office headquarters out of KL, I was a bit concerned. My sis and I don't know the place and some more it's out of the KL area and everything is in Malay. That moment, I prayed that God would grant us someone who knows Malay would be willing to make the trip with us. When we went back to the hotel to inform Serine hoping to get some advice from her, Carolyn stepped in and volunteered to go with us. At that point in time, I really cannot expressed how pleasantly surprised by her gesture and amazed that God answering my prayers. We went together with my sister. And God actually granted us a very honest and nice taxi driver who said that we can pay him on our way back to the hotel and he waited for us for more than 3 hours without any waiting charges! Can you imagine? You definitely won't be able to get that kind of thing in Singapore.

A lot more interesting things happened along the way. I guess what I truly experienced and learnt was the love that was showered upon me. Because the members supported me not just with words but also with actions. So, I really thankful for their love and concern. Though I was a bit apprehensive about approaching for help at first, God reminded me of Pastor William’s words about not to feel imposing upon others if I ever needed anything because we are a family. And in the family context, there isn’t such a thing as owing favors. God just answered to my request throughout the whole event. Everything was quite smooth and He brought me safely back to Singapore.

So, just want to share His goodness with you too. We truly serve an amazing and awesome God!
